The Lemosho Route is the longest route and less used, perfect for those seeking a slower climb with stunning surroundings. After breakfast, we pick you up from the hotel and drive in our 4X4 to Londorossi gate. We will start hiking through the rain forest towards Kibo. While ascending toward Mti Mkumbwa (big tree) Camp we can spot some wild buffalo and elephants. Here, we will have dinner and overnight. Altitude: 2.650m Hiking time: 4 hours.
After early breakfast we start hiking through the rain forest towards the moorland zone. We will take a break for lunch in a valley just outside of Shira Crater. Then we will cross the Shira Caldera, a rarely visited high altitude desert plateau. In the afternoon we will enjoy the first views of Kibo, the lesser summit of Kilimanjaro. We will have dinner and overnight at Shira 1 campsite. Altitude: 3610m Hiking time: 6-7 hours.
Today, we continue east, crossing the Shira Plateau looking at the geological features of Shira cathedral and Shira needle. We will keep ascending slowly to Shira 2 Camp for dinner and overnight.Altitude: 3840m Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
Acclimatization day. After breakfast we leave the moorlands behind us and enter the alpine zone - a barren moonscape of semi desert with very poor vegetation. Our trekking has a level of difficulty as we continue through rocky trails towards the Western Breach. On our way we will cross a molten rock formation called “Lava Tower”. We will take the necessary time to get familiarized with the high altitude, and we start descending through Baranco Valley crossing the Giant Lobellia and Scenecio. We will overnight on the Baranco camp and enjoy the beautiful view of Kibo above us. Altitude: 3950m Hiking time: 7-8 hours.
We start our climb to the Barranco Cliff. This climbing has a small level of difficulty. From here we continue towards the Karanga Camp. We will have a break for lunch and to rest and in the afternoon we will walk around Karanga Valley where Giant Lobellia and Scenecio grow. We return to the camp for dinner and overnight. Altitude: 3963m Hiking time: 3-4 hours.
Today we are heading towards the Barafu camp. The view while we are climbing on the moraine path is spectacular, enjoying fine views of the Mawenzi to the right and Kibo Peak overhead. The surrounding nature here, is mostly a mineral environment with few lichens and mosses. We will have a break for lunch and we will continue our climb towards Barafu in the afternoon. We will have a good rest tonight as tomorrow we have the most challenging and exciting climb of the Uhuru peak. Altitude: 4600m Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
We will wake up at around midnight and after a light breakfast, we start our ascent to Uhuru peak.This early start improves the chances of reaching Uhuru Peak in time for sunrise. On our way up we pass by the Ratzel and Redman glaciers, and after 6 hours of climbing we will reach the edge of the crater between Stella point and Hans Meyer point. Only one hour of climbing left and we will find ourselves on Uhuru Peak at 5895 m. on “the roof of Africa”. We ll enjoy the sunrise view and then we will start descending.We will be back at Barafu Camp by noon to rest and enjoy a hot lunch and then we will continue our descent to Mweka Camp for overnight. Altitude: 5896m - 31OOm Hiking time: 13 hours.
Our descent will be through a beautiful alpine forest towards Mweka Gate. There, a certificate attesting your success in climbing Mount Kilimanjaro will be awarded to you. Our car will be waiting to take you back the lodge in Arusha and reward you with a celebration dinner. Altitude: 198Om Hiking time: 3-4 hours.

There is a visa required for most foreign citizens. The fee varies according to your nationality. Please check with your embassy for up to date details. Also you will need to have immunizations. Check with a travel health clinic in your country for up to date requirements.
There is no special mountaineering equipment needed. We provide mountain tents along with closed-cell foam mattress pads. There are many items you’ll need to bring, but most people find they already own the majority of the items on the packing list. If you have cold weather/snow gear and hiking clothes, then you’ll have most of what you need. Please review our packing list page that explains what to bring on your climb.
